How to publish and use the standard mobile workspaces on your Dynamics 365 for Operations environment

This blog will guide you through publishing one or more of the standard available mobile workspaces and use them on your mobile device in just three simple steps.

Note: Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Operations version 1611 with platform update 3 or later must be implemented. It might be required to install separate KBs that enable the mobile workspaces that are provided by Microsoft.

The prerequisites are:

  • Access to a Dynamics 365 for Operations environment as a system administrator
  • A mobile device running iOS or Android or Windows Universal Platform with internet connection
  • A couple of minutes of your time

1. Publish the standard mobile workspaces

Navigate to your Dynamics 365 for Operations environment and click on the Mobile app item under your Settings wheel in the top-right section of your client.

Note: If you can navigate to the System parameters form, but do not see the Mobile tab, please append ‘&mobile=true’ to your environment URL. This will enable the Mobile option as part of your Settings wheel in the top-right section of your client.

The Manage mobile app form will open, just as in the screenshot below.

Click on any of the available mobile workspaces and click Publish to publish the mobile workspace within the organization.

Note: Any mobile workspace that is already published can be unpublished in the same way.

Note: Before Spring (July 2017) update, users must publish the mobile workspaces from the System parameters form within the System administration module. There is a separate Manage mobile workspaces tab that allows you to publish the workspaces.

2. Get the mobile application for your device

Install the Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Operations mobile application on the device of your choice. For version prerequisites and download links, please see below.

Windows (Universal Windows Platform)

  • Not yet available for download, coming soon

3. Connect your mobile application to your environment

Step 1. Open the Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Operations mobile application on the device of your choice.

Step 2. Enter the URL of your Dynamics 365 for Operations environment.

Note: Be sure to include the ‘https://’ section of the URL and not to include any of the URL-parameters, such as the company. The URL should like something like: https://dennis365foroperations.cloudax.dynamics.com

Step 3. Sign in using your credentials

Step 4. (Optionally) Change your company. Navigate to the Settings using the ‘burger’ menu icon, and click Change company.

Step 5. Click any of the available mobile workspaces. To view recently published workspaces you must refresh the application by pulling down from the top of your screen.
